Abert U.S. Top Engineer from the Reconnoissances of the officers of the U.S. Army by Wash: Hood. The map is printed in white on a black background. An additional title "1838 WAR MAP" located in the upper right corner was added to the reproduction using yellow stick-on lettering. The map includes much of the State of Florida from the southern tip of the peninsula (excluding the Keys) to St. Augustine in the North. As a military map it marks a number of Forts, including Fort Brooke in Tampa Bay. On the back, handwritten in pencil, is the following: "The white spot under the words "Fort Brook" is it - under the "F" of Fort"; "You will need a magnifying glass to see Fort Brook"; "This is a real army map!" (underlined).
