Geographical Description:
Spanish Florida/Spanish East Florida. This map covers the immediate St. Augustine town limits (still enclosed by a wall) as well as an "Indian Town" on either side - north and south. The Castillo de San Marcos (titled simply as fort here) is also shown. Anastasia Island (here called St. Anastatia Island) is shown, as is the Matanza (Matanzas) River, St. Mark's River, "The Harbour," and St. Sebastian's River.
There are depth soundings along the Atlantic coast as well as indicators for the South Channel, North Channel, South Breakers, and North Breakers near the coastline.
The caption at the bottom of the map reads: St. Augustine, the capital of East Florida, N. America, the Harbour is shallow but secure. It was ceded during Mr. Pitt's administration, by the English to the Spaniards. Lat. 29.48 N. Long 80.50 West of London.
