In 1886, Jackson finished his third map of Tampa. This map, like the 1853 version (1996.051.3425), is extremely detailed. Comparing the two, the growth of the small town is evident, especially the addition of railroad tracks running the length of Polk Street, where they remain today. The 1886 map does not include the Fort Brooke area, which by this time had left the government's hands and had slipped into a period of decline and decay. Between the time these two maps were drawn, Jackson served as mayor of Tampa for 19 days in 1862 and his son, Thomas Jackson, served as mayor for one term (August 1877 - August 1878).
