Cigar label for "F. Lozano, Son Y Ca." (F. Lozano, Son & Co.) brand cigars. The cigar label's design and trademark is owned by Morgan Cigar Co. Inc., legal successors of F. Lozano Son Y Ca., circa 1924. The label is a chromolithograph and features a map of Florida and Cuba with the locations for Tampa and Havana labeled. The map is framed in an oval-shaped cloud that also has the brand name and "Tampa, Fla." in gold-color letters. The F. Lozano Son Y Ca. company coat of an arms (an arm wearing a vambrace while raising a bronze-colored dagger) flanks the map on the right and left side. Faustino Lozano and his two sons, Faustino Lozano Jr. and Jos Maria Lozano, founded F. Lozano, Son & Co. in 1907. The company began after Faustino Lozano retired from his position with Lozano Pendas & Co. and Faustino Lozano Jr. ended his association with Alejandro (Padrino) Nista and Lozano Nistal & Co. The company was headquartered in New York City but operated factories in Ybor City. The company ceased manufacturing operations in 1923 before being bought by Morgan Cigar Co. in 1924. Colonel William T. Morgan established the Morgan Cigar Co. in Tampa in 1905 after working for Sanchez, Rodriguez & Co. in Seattle. The company's first factory was located on the corner of Fremont Avenue and Arch Street. On May 22, 1910, Berriman Bros. Cigar Company sold its N. Howard Avenue cigar factory to Morgan. Morgan Cigar Co. invested $8,500 dollars in renovations allowing for 1,000 laborers to work in the factory and increasing output at the factory to more than 11 million cigars each year. Morgan Cigar Co. continued to work out of this factory until 1962 where the company closed down. Its assets would be sold to Gradiaz, Annis & Co. before being sold again to General Cigar Co. in 1964.
