Untitled manuscript map of Tampa Bay with Fort Brooke

Pub Note:
ca. 1830 Cantonment Brooke, later Fort Brooke - describes boundaries of reservation. #'d 128-22-1. While there are many maps of Florida that show the location of Tampa and Fort Brooke, and several maps specifically of Tampa or Fort Brooke, there are very few maps from the early to mid-19th century that show the town and fort in context with the surrounding area. This map, drawn by Lieutenant Gouverneur Morris during this time at Fort Brooke, shows how the fort was connected to the rest of the area, plus the geography around Hillsborough Bay and on the eastern shore of Tampa Bay. Though crude, the map provides some amazing insight into early Tampa.
