Comments on page 4 describe the hotel as "the only fire-proof resort structure in this country", and the other says that "expert chemical analysis has shown that the water used at the Tampa Bay is as FINE and PURE as any in the world." There is a photo of the Port Tampa Inn which is the last image in the booklet. The "Plant System" was a network of railroads, river steamer lines, and ocean steamship lines, built by industrialist Henry B. Plant across the Florida Atlantic Seaboard. The system established Tampa as a shipping hub between the rest of the U.S. and the Caribbean. The system transformed Tampa from a small town of about 700 to a fully industrialized city of over 7,000. A key part of this system was a tourist industry built on America's burgeoning leisure class, and Plant built eight luxury hotels along his rail line, the grandest of which was The Tampa Bay Hotel.
